The International Veterinary Student’s Association (IVSA) is the largest veterinary students organisation in the world with over 40,000 active members in 65 countries. IVSA holds an annual congress. At the 66th IVSA Congress in Malaysia, which lasted from 24 July – 4 August, a board of officers was elected. UGM student, class of 2015, Andre Firmansyah, who is Indonesia’s representative, was selected as Secretary of Member Organization Dicertor of the IVSA. Andre was elected after a vote that involved all attending member countries.
Andre was once on the executive of the National Meeting of Indonesian Veterinary Students (IMAKAHI). He started work on 1 September 2017 and will serve until 1 September 2018. He will cooperate with other executives from various countries to advance the profession of veterinary medicine. As Secretary of Member Organization Director, his main duty is to coordinate various events of international projects of students from all veterinary colleges that are members of the IVSA.
IVSA has the goal of increasing the standard of veterinary medicine education internationally through the exchange of ideas, experience, and culture. This organisation is active in international projects in various countries each year. The organisation is also the representave of veterinary medicine students at international forums. According to Andre, the responsibility that he has been given has proved that Indonesian veterinary medicine students are able to compete with others from different countries. Andre hoped he could carry out the responsibilities well for the advancement of the veterinary medicine profession.
“Hopefully, in the future there will be more veterinary students who are inspired to make contributions at the global level,” said Andre on Monday (18/9).
