An Open Senate Forum which was held on Friday (10/11) marked the peak of the 48th-anniversary celebration of Faculty of Animal Science UGM. In the occasion, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA. presented the report regarding the faculty’s achievements in academics and students affairs, research, community service, finance, assets, and human resources sectors.

“There are four main programs which have been done, ongoing, and will be held within the five years of the tenure, which are the increase of number and quality of output, input, and cooperation with enterprises, as well as the enhancement of service quality and internal management,” said Ali at Auditorium of Faculty of Animal Science.

On academic sector, Ali said the interest of prospective students to attend the Faculty of Animal Science within these past four years keeps increasing up to four times of the previous years. The students’ academic achievements are also consistently increasing with Grade Point Average (GPA) more than 3.00 and a shorter study period.

“The GPA is 3.17 where this number has surpassed the target of quality assurance of Faculty of Animal Science,” he added.

Faculty of Animal Science also provides scholarships for the students. From 2013 until 2016, the total number of students who obtained the governmental scholarship for underprivileged students is 247 people while those who obtained the other scholarships are 54 people.

In order to build network and open cooperation opportunity on academic sector with many universities in ASEAN region as well as face the global competitiveness particularly for the new graduates of Animal Science and Industry Study Programme, Faculty of Animal Science UGM follows the international quality assurance system through ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) with a good result.

“Aside from having AUN certification, Faculty of Animal Science UGM is also proactive in coordinating the university network at ASEAN level through Southeast Asia Network of Animal Sciences which has been initiated by Faculty of Animal Science since 2009,” said Ali.

The performance of research and publication which have been conducted by lecturers at the faculty are also well evaluated. Until October 2017, the number of research projects that had been conducted is 68 projects with total funding of 6 billion rupiahs. Various community service activities also have been done by the lecturers, both using funding from the faculty and the other parties.

These achievements receive appreciation from UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng. who also attended this event. Panut delivered his appreciation as well as gratitude towards the contribution of this faculty for UGM and the national advancement.

“On behalf of UGM, I express my gratitude and high appreciation towards the Dean, staff, and all academic community at Faculty of Animal Science,” said Rector.

Panut said animal husbandry is one of the important sectors in Indonesia considering its role as the manufacturer of high-quality food products to improve the community’s welfare and intelligence. Therefore, Panut hopes this faculty can also contribute to support farmers community and promote Indonesian livestock.

“Hopefully with this age of 48, Faculty of Animal Science keeps progressing and leading as well as contributing to the welfare and humanity,” said Panut.

In this occasion, Dean of Faculty of Animal Science also signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three parties which are Tra Vinh University Vietnam, Faculty of Agriculture Tidar University, as well as Rumah Kreasi Indonesia Hebat (Great Indonesian Creative House).
