Film Tengkorak Sekolah Vokasi UGM Wakili Indonesia di Cinequest Festival 2018 di USA

After succeeding to screen at a special gala in Festival Film Asia JAFF 2017, Tengkorak (Skull) film produced by an academic community of Vocational School UGM will represent Indonesia in Cinequest Film and VR Festival 2018 which will be held in Silicon Valley, California, the United States of America.

The good news was delivered by Dean of Vocational School UGM, Dr. Wikan Sakarinto, who was accompanied by Yusron Fuadi, the director of Tengkorak film on Monday (11/12). The film was chosen by the Juries of Cinequest to compete in Best Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror Feature Award in Cinequest 2018.

“According to the result of the polling which was published by USA Today, Cinequest Festival is the best film festival in the USA,” said Wikan Sakarinto.

Wikan Sakarinto said Cinequest sent an invitation to them for Tengkorak screening for World Premier of Cinequest 2018, simultaneously with hundreds other films which are chosen by Cinequest. There will be 40 – 50 film screenings in the festival which will be attended by thousands of filmmakers and film industries.

“Tengkorak will represent Indonesia in this event. The production team consists of lecturers and students in Computer and Information System Diploma Program, who are interested in multimedia skills,” said Wikan

Yusron Fuadi said Tengkorak which has a duration of 130 minutes took 127 days for the shooting in various locations, including Yogyakarta, Singapore, and Mt. Bromo. It is a film with a unique story, interesting plot, and a fantasy wrapped with humor and typical local wisdom of Yogyakarta.

This film brings a mission to raise new things in Indonesian film. Sci-fi films such as Tengkorak are very rare to be produced by Indonesian film producers.

Yusron said Tengkorak tells a story regarding the mystery of a skull finding estimated to originate from 170 thousand years ago in Java Island. This finding raises confusion and debate among scientists and religious leaders. It also triggers the journey of a girl who is determined to uncover the mystery behind it.

“The film was started from a reckless idea of the production team because we did not have the budget to produce this film. We gave our salaries as a lecturer for the continuity of this film,” said Yusron.
