Faculty of Geography UGM has again held National Geography Olympiad (OLGENAS), joined by thousands of students from junior and senior high schools across Indonesia.
OLGENAS 2018 raised the theme Society Capacity Enhancement through Disaster Management towards Disaster Resilient Indonesia. The 13th event was organised from 15-19 January 2018 at Faculty of Geography UGM.
Committee chairman of the event, Ilham Jamaludin, said assessment of winners was done based on accumulative scores in several criteria, such as essay and poster, written test, multimedia test, laboratory test, and outdoor learning.
In the quiz competition, SMA N 5 Yogyakarta high school came as the winner of the category, followed by SMA Kesatuan Bangsa Yogyakarta and SMA Taruna Nusantara. The fourth and fifth places were earned by SMA N 3 Semarang and SMA N 1 Bantul.
Awards were also presented in the competition, such as Best Theory that went to SMA Taruna Nusantara, Best Multimedia to SMA N 1 Bantul, Best Laboratory Test to SMA Kesatuan Bangsa, and Best Outdoor Learning to SMA Taruna Nusantara. Next, Best Essay award was earned by Taruna Nusantara, Best Essay Presentation by SMA N 5 Yogyakarta, Best Infographic Poster by SMA N 3 Denpasar, and Favorite Poster by SMAN 1 Sampang Cilacap.
In the junior high school level, as many as 65 teams took part in the event. The first winner was SMP Islam Al Abidin Surakarta, followed by SMP IT Nur Hidayah and SMP Internat Al Kautsar. Other awards were earned by SMP Internat Al Kautsar for Best Written Test, SMP Labschool Kebayoran for Best Multimedia, SMPIT Nur Hidayah for Best Outdoor Learning, and SMP Internat Al Kautsar for Best Case Study.
