Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Basoeki Hadimoeljono, as well as Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti became two of five grant recipients of Herman Johannes Award.
The award was given during the celebration of the 72nd Engineering Higher Education Day which was held on Tuesday (20/2) at Senate Hall UGM.
“I feel honored to earn Herman Johannes Award 2018. I deliver my gratitude and highest appreciation toward UGM,” said Basoeki in his speech after receiving the award.
Basoeki who is an alumnus of Faculty of Engineering UGM said this award became a reminder of the trust and hope of his alma mater toward him for doing his responsibilities as well as serving the nation.
“In working, there are two things that I always remember. First is my alma mater and the second is my family. Therefore, it will become my reminder to finish my tasks better for upholding the glory of my alma mater,” he added.
Herman Johannes Award is an award given by Faculty of Engineering UGM and Gadjah Mada Engineering Alumni Association (KATGAMA). Taking the name of Herman Johannes, a national hero who was also the second UGM Rector, the award is given as an appreciation towards national figures who played an important role in developing science and technology in Indonesia.
“This award was initiated by Airlangga Hartarto as contribution toward the nation. The award is expected to inspire the young generation to give their best to the nation,” said Chairman of Gadjah Mada Engineering Alumni Association, Ir. Agus Prijatno.
On the other hand, Susi Pudjiastuti said the award became one of the proofs that Indonesia appreciates those who work really hard.
“It is not an individual award but for the citizens of the nation. The award also goes to our President, Joko Widodo, who has chosen me that only graduated from Senior High School to be his Minister,” said Susi.
On the occasion, Basoeki earned an award in the infrastructural sector while Susi Pudjiastuti earned an award in the maritime sector. The award was also given to the late of Prof. Ir. Hadjoso Prodjopangarso in Watering Technology Sector, Prof. Dr. Soebroto, M.A. in the energy sector, as well as the late of Dr. Ir. Hartarto Sastrosoenarto in the industrial sector. Those awards were presented to their family representatives.
“I am proud to earn the award on behalf my husband who passed away in May. I am grateful that UGM still remembers my husband’s merit,” said Hartati Soekardi Hartarto who received the award on behalf her husband, Hartarto Sastrosoenarto.
