Faculty of Geography UGM this year celebrates its 55th anniversary or 11th Lustrum. As a form of commitment and spirit of Faculty of Geography in making contribution to the interest of the wider public and the environment, the anniversary raised the theme Geography for Better Environment.
“This is an opportunity for academic members of Faculty of Geography to respond to the challenge in environment issues and to create a better environmental condition in the future,” said Dr. Dyah Widyastuti, S.T., M.CP., anniversary event committee chairperson on Friday (4/5).
It started with a fun exercise done by not just academic members of the university but also from other work units of UGM. Dyah said the event that was responded positively by them became a good start to the anniversary events that will last in the next few months.
“I hope our events would run successfully. We have started well, hopefully this would continue until the peak of the event, which is the senate meeting,” she added.
Dean of Faculty of Geography, Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Muh. Aris Marfa’i, M.Sc., opened the anniversary celebration by releasing 11 pairs of doves to nature. He was accompanied by faculty leadership and representatives from other faculties.
Aris said in each anniversary celebration, Faculty of Geography tried to present new things. This time the celebration had more events than before.
“This year the anniversary celebration is different from those of before. This year we give throw more events, starting today to September,” he said. The events include scientific events, such as seminar, international conference, and social events which involve lecturers, staff, students, and alumni.
“Congratulations to Faculty of Geography that celebrates its 55th anniversary and has invited us to join the opening ceremony. We wish Faculty of Geography will be more successful in the future,” said Tri Mastoyo, representative from Staff Corps of Universitas Gadjah Mada (KORPAGAMA).
