National Standardization Agency Grants SNI Corner to UGM

Head of National Standardization Agency (BSN) of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Prasetya, M.Sc., and Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., have officially launched the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) Corner at the Central Library of UGM.

The SNI Corner in UGM has 500 documents of electronic and printed standards to assist the needs of UGM academics and the community.

“The establishment of SNI Corner is a form of the agreement between UGM and BSN to cooperatively carry out training and development in standardization and conformity assessment. The memorandum of understanding was signed in 2015,” said Rector of UGM.

The SNI Corner of UGM is located in two different locations, which are the lobby of UGM Central Library and at the Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory (LPPT) UGM. Aside from the launching of SNI Corner as an information service center, UGM and BSN also cooperated to conduct a training and development which consist of various educational activities, training and promotion, expert participation program, information exchange and utilization, laboratory use, research and result dissemination, as well as micro and small business training.

Panut added that information on predefined standards is not only important for academics, but also for producers and service providers in order to improve the quality of products and services. Therefore, he expected that the SNI Corner in UGM can be used by various groups in need, ranging from academics, industry players, and people in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas.

The launching of SNI Corner was highly appreciated by the Head of UGM Library, Dra. Nawang Purwanti, M.Lib., and Head of Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory, Yusril Yusuf, S.Si., M.Si., M.Eng., D.Eng., as the hosts. Supports from them were given by providing a designated service space and staff equipped with materials on National Standard. On the same day, to prepare the library staff and the academics BSN also organized a workshop on the introduction to SNI and BSN, as well as standardized information sources and standardized information gathering for the academic community.

The national standardization efforts, said the Head of BSN, are closely related to the national development strategy. In his opinion, SNI Corner is essential for business people, researchers, and other industry players in developing various products that will compete in the national and international level. SNI Corner in UGM is expected to bridge the needs of various community in relation to standardization and conformity assessment.
