Materials Research Society of Indonesia (MRS-id) organised an international conference in Aston Denpasar Bali from 31 July – 2 August 2018. The biennial meeting themed Materials for Energy and Environment Sustainability was joined by 133 participants from 11 countries, such as Germany, UK, Japan, and Spain.
Dr. Kuwat Triyana, materials scientist from UGM as well as conference committee member, said MRS-id is a non-profit organisation that facilitates networks of advanced material science.
“MRS-id focuses to disseminate materials science and technology in Indonesia, ASEAN, Asia and the world,” said Kuwat Triyana to reporters on Tuesday (7/8) at UGM.
Kuwat said MRS-id conference in Bali presented awards to materials scientists in Indonesia that have made contribution to the development of materials science. The awards were Materials Scientist Lifetime Achievement (MSLA), Excellent Materials Scientist (EMS), and Young Materials Scientist (YMS).
The MSLA award went to Prof. Subagjo from ITB for developing catalyst materials in petrochemical industry, the EMS award to Dr. Ferry Iskandar from ITB for developing types of advanced materials for diverse applications. The YMS award went to Dr. Hutomo Suryo Wasisto from TU Braunschweig, Germany, that made research in micro device for sensor applications.
Kuwat explained the conference also presented 7 plenary speakers, 13 keynote speakers, 95 oral speakers, and 45 poster speakers, in addition to 3 speakers from the industry.
