The more complex health issues require cross-disciplines research. In order to achieve synergy in resolving the health problems, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing UGM has united its study centres in the Research and Development building that is installed on Friday(10/8).

“The presence of this building I believe will improve the performance of Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing. Hopefully, the study centres can be more integrated under the same building and form synergy for better research,” said Vice-Rector for Human Resource and Asset, Prof.Dr.Ir. Bambang Agus Kironoto, who installed the building.

The building on the Persatuan Street was formerly the UGM Language Training Centre. Currently, it will hold centres such as Tropical Medicine Centre, Health Policy and Management Centre, Reproductive Health Centre, Bioethics and Humanities Centre, and Pediiatrics Research Office (PRO).

Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., PhD., SpOG(K), said the location of the building which is strategic and flanked by different faculties would open research collaboration opportunities for centres of Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing with others.

“It is expected that this would be good practice that can be disseminated while multi-disciplinary cooperation is more enhanced. This building becomes innovative windows for  Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing to the public and general services,” she said.

Vice-Dean, dr. Yodi Mahendradhata, MSc., Ph.D., said the centre of studies belonging to the Faculty contributed much to the development of health studies and services. Centre for Policy and Management, for instance, gave health recommendation to Ministry of Health, while Tropical Health Centre has been mandated by the WHO to be research training centres in Southeast Asia.

“All studies centres being in one building makes us more synergistic and complementing each other, so we can be giving more contribution in the future,” he said.
