The front yard of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM was full with members of academic community clad in sporting shirts on Friday afternoon (10/8). They joined the FISIPOL FUN RUN event organised by the Faculty to welcome the 18th Asian Games to be run in Jakarta and Palembang
The 250-participants event travelled a four km track around UGM, starting from the Faculty’s courtyard, Wisdom Park, compound of lecturer homes, Grha Sabha Pramana, and back to the Faculty. After the fun run, participants were given door-prizes.
Velina Aulia, Public Relations Officer of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, said this event was a form of support for the 18th Asian Games to be held in Jakarta and Palembang. She said Asian Games needed to interpreted as the event of all Indonesians, not just the cities that hold the competition. “Let us not be ignorant towards the athletes that will take part in the competition,” she said.
Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Erwan Agus Purwanto, said the Faculty was trying to socialise among UGM academic community the importance of supports for the athletes in the Asia’s biggest sporting event. “Asian Games needs to go viral,” he said.
Erwan said the fun run was also an effort to enhance solidarity between the Faculty’s academic community. But this was not the only effort of solidarity being formed there. “Faculty of Social and Political Sciences has a running community, FISIPRUN, that does running every week. There is also FISIPPIT for those that like to cycle, and FISIPOL LARAS for those that play the gamelan music,” he explained.
Erwan hoped with the FISIPOL FUN RUN, all members of academic community of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences would get healthier and have solid relations. “These would support the vision of UGM in giving good services to the academic community,” he added.
Besides, he hoped the event would spread the Asian Games fever further. “Not just around Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, but also entire UGM,” he concluded.
