In celebrating the 11th Lustrum of Faculty of Agricultural Technology UGM, Food and Agricultural Product Technology Department along with Indonesian Association of Food Technologist Yogyakarta Branch organized a national seminar themed “Food and Agricultural Product Technology Innovation towards the Improvement of Global Competitiveness” on August 30-31, 2018.
The theme was strategic and relevant enough, considering the implementation of ASEAN Economic Community that demands high competitiveness in agricultural products, including food products.
On August 30, the seminar participants visited the Agricultural Technology Park located at Nglanggeran Village, Gunung Kidul Regency. The park was under the authority of the Assessment Institute for Agricultural Technology (AIAT) in collaboration with Faculty of Agricultural Technology UGM.
Representative of AIAT, Dr. Titiek D. Djafaar, presented the results of research conducted by the park and UGM as product development application. Additionally, the event exhibited a traditional performance of Gejlok Lesung by the local community.
On the second day, the seminar started with a speech from the Chairman, Dr. Tyas Utami, M.Sc., and commenced officially by Dean of Agricultural Technology UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Eni Harmayani, M.Sc.
The seminar presented 2 keynote speakers, Dr. Asep Nurhitman, M.P., with the title “Canned Food: From Local to Global”, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Umar Santoso, M.Sc., with “Halal Foods”. The event continued with oral presentations of participants with 5 different topics, including Food Quality and Safety, Nutrition and Functional Food, Process Technology, Biotechnology, Socio-Economics and Agricultural Industry Management.
Afterwards, it proceeded with announcement and prize distribution for the Student Competition winners for the best oral presentations and favorite posters, which are earned by presenters from UGM and Universitas Padjajaran. The event was then closed by Chairman of the Lustrum Committee, Dr. Ria Millati, S.T., M.T.
