Masuk Peringkat 50 Besar Dunia, Times Higher Education University Impact Ranking Jadi Pemacu Perbaikan Proses UGM

Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., viewed that the ranking of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) among world 50 universities in Gender Equality aspect and world 70 in Decent Work and Economic Growth aspect as released by Times Higher Education University Impact Ranking had proved UGM contribution in achieving United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).

In both aspects, Universitas Gadjah Mada ranks first in Indonesia. Overall in the world, it is among 101-200 places.

“UGM contribution in SDGs achievement can no longer be doubted. What we need to improve is the process and management in terms of planning, implementation, evaluation, and development in various aspects,” said Panut on Monday (8/4).

UGM Head of Office of Quality Assurance, Prof. Indra Wijaya Kusuma, said the world recognition in terms of gender equality was based on the proportion of female staff and students that UGM has. UGM also gives opportunity to women to get into higher learning to support the SDGs.

Meanwhile, Decent Work and Economic Growth aspect was based on the number of student of academic and non-academic staff as well as policy and practices at UGM which is non-discriminatory, and commitment on staff welfare. In other aspects such as Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Climate Action, Peace Justice and Strong Institutions and Partnership for the Goals, UGM ranks 101+.

“Universitas Gadjah Mada will improve its contribution to achieving the SDGs and improve process and mechanism of reporting and evaluation related to SDGs achievement,” he said.

Times Higher Education is the most prestigious university ranking. On Sunday (4 April 2019), it released Times Higher Education University Impact Ranking for the first time. The ranking is the only one in the world based on university performance in terms of impacts to achieving United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). This year THE deploys just 11 aspects of all 17.

UGM is one of 462 universities in the world entering the ranking. From Indonesia there are just 6 universities being included.
