UGM Introduce Renewable Energy Technology to Vocational School Teachers

Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics Department UGM has given Training and Workshop related to Renewable Energy for Vocational School teachers in Yogyakarta. Lasting from 1 – 2 October, the training involved 34 teachers.

Secretary at the Department, Ir. Nunung Prabaningrum, Ph.D., said the training aimed at introducing renewable energy to the teachers and applicable energy for society and industry.

“To the teachers we introduce renewable energy technology such as micro hydro, hydram, biofuel and pyrolysis technology,” said Nunung in a release sent to reporters on Friday (4/10).

Apart from theories, participants also did a mini-practicum in the Renewable Energy Lab of the Department. They had the opportunity to see and try out renewable energy such hydram, solar panel, solar collector, pyrolysis, and biofuel production process. “On the second day we invited them to do a simulation and modelling of renewable energy system using simulators and practise making Distributed Energy Monitoring System,” he said. 

Fajar Tri Wibowo, S.Pd., teacher of SMKN 1 Ponjong in Gunung Kidul, said he was happy to join the training because he could see for himself and try out the renewable energy technology in the lab. So was Nanang Koya Setiawan from SMK Muhammadiyah 1 in Bantul, saying that he could learn from nature. Meanwhile, Widiastuti from SMK N 1 Saptosari in Gunungkidul felt that she obtained inspiration from the event. “From this training I now have materials to teach and additional modul on solar energy,” she said.

Head of the Lab, Ahmad Agus Setiawan, Ph.D., said the event like this would be done regularly and sustainably. “After participating in this event, the participants are expected to be able to apply the technology in their respective schools and give attention to the development and utilisation of renewable energy technology,” he said.
