Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) ranks third nationally as Green Campus according to Universitas Indonesia (UI) GreenMetric World University Ranking 2019, released on 3 December 2019.
“UGM has ranked third among best Green Campus across Indonesia and ranked 47th in the world,” said Director of Planning UGM, Dr. Ir. Budi Prayitno, M.Eng., on Wednesday (18/12) at UGM.
UI GreenMetric is the first ranking in the world that is based on university commitment in achieving green campus. This is done on 780 universities from 85 countries. In 2018 UGM ranked 6th nationally and 91st in the world of a total of 719 universities.
“We appreciate this achievement. Ranking is not the main target, but it triggers us to achieve a smart and green campus,” he said.
Budi explained there were 6 criteria of assessment being used in the UI GreenMetric, namely, infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water use, transportation, and education. “Of all those indicators, we mostly showed a good performance,” he said.
UGM, however, still lacks in campus infrastructure indicator. So, going forward, UGM will continue to improve the infrastructure such as making rainwater installation, zero run off system, grey water, and solar panels, as well as educating UGM academic community related to the green campus programme.
“We will try to amplify the smart and green campus movement for the next two years,” he said.
