Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) as the university ranking institution in the world has released the results of the QS World University Ranking in 2021. UGM currently reaches the 250th position globally, specifically in 254th place. It was increased 66th in rank compared to QS WUR 2020. It was on the 320th global rank back then.
The number of parties is very proud, considering that this is the first time UGM has succeeded in penetrating the world’s top 300 rankings since 2014. As a result, UGM has become the best university in Indonesia, according to the QS ranking announced today on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. The Chancellor of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Panut Mulyono, embraced the university’s performance this year.
“Although ranking is not the primary goal that we pursue, it is still a very honorable achievement for UGM. These results prove to the world that UGM can compete globally. This achievement is the result of all stakeholders’ hard work,” Panut said on Wednesday (6/10).
There are six main criteria to determine the ranking conducted by QS. They are academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty-student ratio, international faculty, and international students.
Since 2010 QS has ranked world universities, and UGM has consistently entered the ranks of top universities with a consistent ranking that keeps increasing. UGM occupied the 551-600 position in the world in 2015, but improvements and changes bear fruit. UGM’s ranking has continued to rise in the past five years to jump to 254th in 2021.
UGM has made many improvements on the internal side, ranging from courses for international students, increasing the number of lecturers, encouraging research, to building good cooperation with various domestic and foreign partners.
The Head of UGM Quality Assurance Office, Prof. Indra Wijaya, assessed that this encouraging result was the work of various parties.
“This will not make us careless because we must keep internalizing the quality values of Tridarma to the competition going forward. Surely it will be stronger,” Indra said.
This achievement will encourage UGM to continue to make improvements in all aspects so that it is getting better in the global arena.
