The UGM teaching and mentoring team and the Yogyakarta City Industry and Trade Office, and the Yogyakarta Metal Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) organized training on innovative and market-oriented product design, namely “Product Design Training for the Introduction of Cultural Products”.
This training event was launched at the Yogyakarta City UPT Logam Office in two periods. They were period I on September 21 to 22, 2020, and period II on October 12 to 13, 2020. This event got support from DANAIS DIY (DIY Privileges Fund).
“This training aims to generate innovative capabilities for IKM in Yogyakarta City to be able to survive the economic conditions affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” revealed Dr. Eng. Herianto, S.T., M.Eng as the teaching team representative.
Herianto gave training that covered product design, 3D design training, and training in using 3D Printing. The product designed is a form of product for the aluminum casting IKM and the jewelry IKM.
“The three pieces of training can be a valuable asset to innovate during pandemic conditions,” he added.
Technically, the implementation would begin with online training. There were 20 participants from various IKM fields, including aluminum IKM, silver IKM, and several general IKM. This training has then proceeded with close mentoring, which was divided into two periods.
“The participants consist mostly of owners or the entrepreneurs who run the business. Hence, they have been familiar with their fields. My material enhances as a kind of supplement to make them more creative,” he explained.
Additionally, he explained that the mentoring program itself was intended to be held until the end of the year. This team was also building technology and mentoring for IKMs, hoping this program would remain in the coming year.
Ir. M. Imam Nurwahid, as the head of the committee, said that this training was implemented in order to encourage IKM innovation in Yogyakarta to survive in this unfortunate condition into a profitable opportunity and the current pandemic conditions.
Hopefully, this event can greatly influence and help IKM in Yogyakarta City survive and grow with a market-oriented innovation pattern.
