Perempuan Memiliki Peran Signifikan di Masa Pandemi Covid-19

Women have begun to participate almost in all sectors in this world, including leadership. Today, women have equal participation more freely to take the front seat of empowerment. The International Women's Day is annually celebrated on 8 March; this year, it raises the theme entitled, "Women in Leadership: Accomplishing an Equal Future in the Covid-19 Era". This commemoration aims to celebrate women's contribution to every aspect of life.

Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and expert on Gender, Literature, and Discourse, Dr. Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., mentioned that today, women have begun to significantly take the front seat in leadership and almost all actors in this world. The limited access does not hinder them from being excellently involved in their fields and activities.

"Women leadership have a very crucial role even though sometimes there is a limited access in doing it," she said on Monday (08/03).

She added that when opportunities are given equally to all people globally, it means that women also have similar chances to men. Not a few women have successful roles in forming a better future, one of which is overcoming pandemics.

"For instance, we see Sri Mulyani as Minister of Finance. She has a tremendous role in managing the country's finance during the pandemic," she said.

Supporting The Ratification of Sexual Violence Eradication Bill

Wening added that even though women have tremendous successful contributions to the fields of society, the economic fields, etc., they still require to face serious challenges in the middle of a pandemic. One example is when Komnas Perempuan revealed domestic Violence (KDRT) in Indonesia remains to increase during a pandemic.

Due to the emergency cases of Violence against women or girls, she highly supported the sexual violence eradication bill's ratification.

"Violence against women or girls happens every day. Thus, I highly encouraged the ratification of the sexual violence eradication bill to be strictly applied in this country," she concluded.
