The Ashwincarra of the Gadjah Mada Flying Object Research Center (GAMAFORCE) placed eighth at the 2022 Teknofest Fighter UAV Competition held on August 15-21 at Samsun University Özdemir Bayraktar, Turkey. Ashwincarra was the only Indonesian team in the competition.
Teknofest is Turkey’s largest aerospace festival, organized by the Technology Team Foundation (T3) in collaboration with the government, private companies, and academic institutions. A total of 444 teams from around the world competed for victory this year.
“This success is a tribute to the team’s perseverance and persistence since January 2022, in addition to their high work ethic and cohesiveness,” said Gamaforce International Team Manager Safira Nadia Ramadhani.
Safira (Industrial Engineering) was joined by five other students, Justin Edwardo (Mechanical Engineering), Maulana Akbar Ibrahim (Computer Science), R. Gelora Jagat Dimas P. H. (Electrical Engineering), Albertus Damar Wisesa Pamulu (Electronics and Instrumentation), and Muhammad Yusuf Hidayat (Engineering Physics).
The team supervisors are Aufaclav Zatu Kusuma Frisky, a Computer Science and Electronics lecturer, and Dr. Sigit Basuki Wibowo from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
The competition has two missions this year, the Dog Fight Mission and the Kamikaze Mission. The former requires the aircraft to take off, land, fly and lock onto an enemy aircraft. The latter aims to see if the combat drone can autonomously scan QR codes and send the scan results to the committee’s server.
According to Safira, teams must submit a Preliminary Design Report (PDR) that defines the conceptual design and systems of the vehicle and a Critical Design Report (CDR) where the team outlines manufacturing design plans and strategic concepts to accomplish the mission. The organizers also required participants to submit video evidence of mission completion and the aircraft’s ready communication system.
Finally, she thanked the sponsors for their support during the contest.
“Thank you to sponsors Petrosea, Sinar Mas Land, BRI, and BNI, who have provided great financial support for our team. Hopefully, the cooperation will benefit all parties involved,” said the manager.
