The Security and Peace Study Center (PSKP) of UGM held a seminar entitled “Global Campus Program on Peace Building and Human Security†on 9-10 February 2009. The event that was held at the Wisma MM UGM discussed various global issues about peace and humanity.
PSKP UGM invited delegations from five other universities in its network which were Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (Jepang), Peradeniya University (Sri Lanka), Pannasastra University (Kamboja), University of Kabul (Afganistan) and UGM.
Basically, the seminar on “Global Campus Program†discussed about various research reports about humanity and peace problems in the five participants’ countries. By turns, they explained those problems and compare the research result with each other, in order to see why from the same issue can have different outcome.
According to the head of PSKP UGM Muhadi Sugiono on Monday (9/2), the peace concept and the humanity concept is very complex. Various interpretations in those two concepts were caused by the various interests behind. Therefore this event is hoped to change the perspective available to date. The world should see the peace from humanity perspective, period.
In this seminar PSKP and five other delegations have agreed to establish routine activities such as the general lecture via teleconference, humanity-themed joint research, etc. with this network, it is hope that each participant countries of Global Peace Program can compare the same issues within different context.
Also presented UGM’s Rector Deputy for Alumni and Business Development Affair Prof. Tony Atyanto Dharoko who represented the Rector who couldn’t come to the Seminar, the head of Women Study Center of UGM, the Head of Tourism Studies Magisterial Program of UGM, the Head of the Cultural Study Center of UGM, the State Secretariats, NGO’s Forum, Post-Graduate Students Association of UGM, several other study centers from private universities and the invited.
