In his speech the Rector said that the event displaying research products was expected to inspire anyone who came to see it. The results can be used by the public and can improve national welfare.
“The publication of the existing researches is expected to inspire anyone from all walks of life to be used for the interest of the nation. Therefore, the efforts to improve the nation’s welfare are no longer a dream, but they can turn into reality. It should be noted that this exhibition is not only to increase UGM popularity but also to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people,†the Rector said. Furthermore, he said that those were in line with what had been mandated by the founding fathers to dedicate themselves for the interest and the prosperity of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM), Prof. Dr. Ir. Danang Parikesit, M.Sc., said that this event was a form of expression of UGM academic community. At the same time it is aimed at establishing various partnership programmes with university partners or regional governments of Indonesia.
Danang said that this event was also based on the intention to spread the knowledge that UGM has in hand. “It is a pity if the knowledge tradition that has been built for 60 years is only familiar to UGM academic community. Therefore, we are trying to express ourselves not only for UGM but also for the state and the nation,†he added.
This event is planned to last for a week from 21-26 July 2009, exhibiting the products of researches and community service conducted in that year.
