31 youngsters from Australia and Indonesia participated in the Indonesian-Australian youngsters’ organization delegation meeting forum, entitled “Heart and Minds Indonesian-Australian Youth Leadership Dialog and Conference†(IAYLC) which was held on 1-8 June 2009 at the Postgraduate School of UGM.
The event that was held by the Forum on Australia’s Islamic Relation (FAIR) Australia, UGM’s postgraduate school, and the Center for Religion and Cross Cultural Studies (CRCS) will facilitate the dialogue between young leaders from various regions. They will improve their knowledge and experience in the field of leadership, diversity knowledge, inter-religion and cross cultural dialogue.
The delegation from FAIR Australia, Mr. Kuranda Seyit explained on Monday (1/6) at the postgraduate school of UGM that the activity aims to develop a role of youngsters’ leadership that is aware of the commitment of justice, diversity, and peace in the society. Various activities are also designed so that participants can plan and develop a leadership program that is sensitive to humanity and environmental global issues.
At the same occasion, Dr. Rob Goodfellow from Cultural Consulting said that this kind of activity is important to improve the relationship between Indonesian and Australian youngsters. Goodfellow added that the young generation in this era is better than in his era, this is possible because the communication and friendship across countries is not bordered by the country’s geographical border.
