Gadjah Mada University now owns a new veterinary hospital named Prof. Soeparwi Veterinary Hospital that is expected to be one of educational hospital in UGM environment. The naming cannot be separated from the services given by Prof. Soeparwi to UGM’s Faculty of Veterinary Science and his role as its first dean.
The Dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr. drh. Bambang Sumiarto, S.U., on Monday (3/8) said that the hospital is established to fulfil the requirements of accreditation from BAN (Association of National Accreditation) and from the international one in Asia.
Moreover, the founding of this new veterinary hospital is logically strategic because 87% of the new diseases that attacks humans recently is of zoology origins like bird flu, swine flu, and leptospyrosis. The occurring of these diseases is because we don’t treat animals with good health care. In fact, if we treat animals’ health well, we don’t need to worry that we get infected.
Prof. Soeparwi Veterinary Hospital also functions as a reference hospital for those who practice in local area and don’t have the facilities to do surgery or other medical actions required. As explained by drh. Ida Tjahajati, M.S. as the director of the hospital, Prof. Soeparwi Hospital as the biggest veterinary hospital in Central Java and Yogyakarta also provides various services for pets such as routine checks both for sick and healthy animals, vaccination, minor and major surgery, grooming, dental care, weight control, inpatient services, health consultation, and also services for veterinary medicine, pet shop, roentgen, and blood lab.
"We also have road service where we provide health care for big animals so that they don’t have to come here," she explained.
In addition, Prof. Soeparwi Veterinary Hospital is also equipped with facilities like Small Animal Unit, Road Clinic Unit, Surgery and Radiology Unit, Nursery Unit, Laboratory Unit, Clinic Pharmacy Unit, Epidemiology Clinic Unit, Emergency Installation, and various modern diagnosis back up like EKG, USG, and roentgen.
