Gelanggang Mahasiwa Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is a mute witness of the movements of the students in Yogyakarta. Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM was officially established on July 31st 1975. Stories of growth and human development that happened through a community have existed since the 70’s. Momentum in the course of events related to the dynamics of the history of student movements from the new order, reform, and post-reform has become the attention of a lot of people. Thoughts and the works of the students that were made in the Gelanggang have a big impact on the life of the community such as arts, cultural, social, economic, political, and environmental.
And now, to remember its 34th anniversary, Forum Komunikasi (FORKOM) UGM will hold an Anniversary and a Grand Reunion of Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM titled "Gelanggang UGM Sharing" on Saturday August 1st 2009. The event will start at 13.00 WIB in the Gelanggang UGM. According to Brama Danuwinarta Ramadan, the chairman of FORKOM UGM, this event aims to tighten the relationship between the alumni and students who are still active in the Gelanggang.
In addition, the Gelanggang Achievement Award will be given to the late Prof. Dr. H. Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri, SH. Pak Koes is remembered as a true educator. He was an open hearted person who would accept criticism from anyone, including the students. His spirit and honesty has made him a role model. His artistic talent made him an easy going person that was easily accepted in all circles, including the time when he became Rector of UGM, Pak Koes still did activities with the students in Gelanggang UGM.
The second activity is Reunion Night (Family Gathering) as a place
for UGM alumni who have become part of the Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM to remember memories and also as a forum for the alumni to share experiences with residents of the Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM who are still active. Also, there will be art performances by UGM students, alumni, and from the outside. Among others: The Nawung Asmara dance by Swagayugama, Marching Band UGM, UGM Chamber Orchestra, Gama Band, Lumos Band, Balinese Dance, Cendrawasih dance and Sekar Jagad dance, Suryo and Friends Acoustic Band, Student Choir UGM, UKJGS, Keroncong Irama Tongkol Teduh, slapstick play, tumpeng cutting, and KPJ Suminten and Dangdut peformances.
The third activity is a photo exhibition of Prof. Dr. H. Koesnadi Hardjosoemantri, SH. and the development of the Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM and activities that have been held in Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM from year to year.
