For Women in Science is a unique program that is a product of public-private partnership that aims to acknowledge, encourage, and support women in science. The L’Oreal-Unesco National & International Fellowship for Women in Science was initially founded in 1998 and renewed in 2004 by L’Oreal and Unesco for the international level.
Entering 10 years of international collaboration, For Women in Science Program has been the biggest program that can open job opportunities and scientific network for female researchers around the globe. Until today, there have been 350 female scientists from 50 countries recorded, whose achievements have been acknowledged, who benefit from this program.
At the socialization program of For Women in Science 2009 held at the Multimedia Room of UGM (11/8), the Corporate Communication & PR Manager L’Oreal, Melanie Kridaman stated that the International Unesco-L’Oreal Fellowship is held annually since year 2000. Fellowships are given to 15 young female researchers. From each continent there will be 3 chosen receivers, for the doctoral or the post-doctoral level.
"The program emphasizes on the scientific cooperation on the international level and developing an inter-culture network. This fellowship is worth USD 40,000 to support research projects proposed by the winners for two years," she said.
Every 3 years, 3 fellowships are given for the national level. "Two life sciences and one material science, each is worth 60 million Rupiah," she added.
