Politics observer of UGM, Prof. Ichlasul Amal in a discussion entitled “Measuring the Success of Terrorism Handling in Indonesia†that was held in the Policy Strategy Study Center (PPSK) on Friday (14/8) said that the government is still lacking in a concrete policy that can suppress the suicidal bomber. The government should focus more on finding the Noordin M Top’s way in recruiting many followers.
He also regretted Ibrohim’s death in Temanggung. He believed that the police should be able to catch Ibrohim alive. Therefore they could dig more information from Ibrohim about the recruitment.
The head of the Press Council also criticized the overdone reports by the media in the terrorist ambush in Temanggung. He believed that such intense news flash could make terrorist like Noordin M. Top feel that he has succeeded in terrorizing Indonesia’s society.
Meanwhile, a lecturer from International Relationship Department of Fisipol UGM Dr. Erick Hiariej said that terrorism is not about the bomb, it is about the terror attack to the society that has been done for years. “What the terrorist wants is media publicity,†he said. Erick also agreed with Prof Ichlasul Amal and concerns with the intense news flash in the media.
He continued that the government needs to do more besides making the Anti-Terror Bill Policy, since the terrorist can also utilize technology. They even follow the development of terrorism handling conducted by the government.
