The former Head of Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN), Dr. A.M. Hendropriyono, urged the Indonesian government to apply the Anti- Violence Law. In his opinion, the application of the Law was very urgent to overcome terrorism activities. He said that the existence of the Law was the step to avoid radical trans-national school of contemporary Wahhabi. This school is a potential environment for terrorism development in Indonesia .
Â
“ Indonesia today has to apply the Anti- Violence Law so that those who follow the School, idea, or idealism related with violence will not exist in this country,†Hendropriyono said at Studium Géneralé in auditorium of Faculty of Philosophy UGM, Monday (24/8).
Â
The Doctoral graduate from Philosophy UGM explained that the fundamentalism or radical transnational school of contemporary Wahhabi was the school that has infiltrated in some parts of Indonesian Muslim Community . “2009 is the fourth step of this infiltration,†He said.
Â
He also mentioned about the police’s difficulty in arresting Noordin M. Top. According to him, the Malaysian man got protection from organizational adherents who still follow Wahabism. “Noordin is hiding in a habitat that loves violence and he admits here as wahabi and salafi,†He emphasized.
Â
To overcome the global terrorism, Hendropriyono insisted that Islamic countries cooperate in clearing fundamentalism influence. That case was the basic requirement to neutralize terrorists’ environment. Besides, he also suggested developing countries altogether to press the UN in order to force the developed countries to be responsible for ethical practices in global democratization process.
Â
Answering questions on the police’s monitoring of preaching activity in Ramadhan, Hendropriyono said that it was effective enough to monitor the infiltration of terrorism. “Terrorism enters by education so it is very important to control it,†he explained.
