Indonesia holds 55% of the world’s total sago forest, with 1.25 million hectare of sago forest; 148 thousand hectare are cultivated sago forest. The Executive Director of Magisterial Engineering System (MST) Entrepreneurship Forum of UGM, Hiro Prabantoro ST said that sago is a potential commodity and therefore the policies on the management, usage and utilization of sago in Eternal Sago Field (LSA) are needed to improve the national Food and Energy Endurance.
Hiro Prabantoro conveyed this in front of reporters on Tuesday (18/11) in UGM campus. He also added that the MST Entrepreneurship Forum will hold a national seminar entitled “Sago’s Prospect in the National Food and Energy Endurance†on Saturday 22 November 2008 at the Meeting Room of University Club (UC) UGM. The seminar will present a key speaker, named Freddy Numberi.
The head of the organizing committee Jhon Jonathan Numberi added that the seminar will discuss on the identification of sago’s potential in fulfilling the food and energy industries’ needs and also design the management and development strategy for small and medium sago-based enterprises. Moreover, the seminar aims to encourage the establishment of sago-based industries and socialize the sago processing as a food and energy commodity.
