UGM has suffered more than IDR 12 billion loss caused by the thunder storm in UGM campus on Friday. Internet network and radio broadcaster tower, several vehicles, computers, roof, ceiling, and canopies in most building were damaged / broken.
The Senior Rector Deputy for Financial Administration and Human Resources of UGM Prof Ainun Naiem conveyed this after the post-thunder storm meeting which discussed the loss caused by the thunder storm on Saturday (8/11) at the leaders’ meeting room in UGM.
Along with the Director of Asset Management and Maintenance Dr Singgih Wibowo and the Director of Planning and Development of UGM Dr Adam Pamudji Rahardjo, Ainun Naiem explained that UGM will ask the 12 billion to the government, since the extraordinary damage caused by the thunder storm is outside the university’s financial calculation.
Ainun added that roof and ceiling were damaged; making rain water entered the offices and broke several computers and LCDs. However, important data are saved, since they’ve backed it up.
Meanwhile Singgih Wibowo said that approximately more than 100 trees in UGM fell down, damaging several vehicles underneath, several road facilities and blocking access roads. Ainun added that students will still be able to continue their study, even though there might be some adjustment in the class rooms.
Internet connection was disconnected since the power supply from PLN to the Center of Information and Communication Technology Service was broken. The electric supply now temporarily supported by Generator Set, and UGM has asked PLN to immediately fix the electrical power supply to UGM.
However, since the internet network tower is broken down, all of the wireless connection in UGM is dead. For a while, there only fiber optic-based internet is available.
