Disaster Early Response Unit (DERU) of UGM has made various efforts in helping the post-earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction of West Sumatra. They divided the teams into different groups in accordance with their respective expertise. These are: a Health Team, a Geology and Psychology Team, a Civil Engineering Team, and a KKN PPM Peduli Bencana Team.
As stated by the leader of the UGM DERU Team, Dr. Joko Prastowo, M.Sc., Wednesday (7 / 10), these teams have been coordinating and have delivered some of their findings for further action. Joko informed that the Geology and Psychology Team has entered the village which is buried in Mount Tigo. Reportedly, this village was buried by landslide after the earthquake. Meanwhile, the civil engineering team has made assessments on buildings in some private universities and water distribution system in Padang .
"The technical team has tried to assist in operating the drinking water facilities in the Padang area by approaching the existing agencies," he said. It is expected that water activity can begin running on the trial on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.
Another team, KKN-PPM, has been negotiating and coordinating the establishment of the UGM post in Padang Pariaman through Wali Nagari in Pekandangan. The result, posts have been determined for the implementation of KKN-PPM Peduli Bencana in Padang Pariaman. One post is located in the Nagari Gadur, Sub Pekandangan, Padang Pariaman, and the other post in the Central Development Learning Activities (BPKB) in Rawang, Padang Pariaman.
"For the public post, UGM will build a platoon tent at the Merdeka Square in front of the Padang Pariaman Regent office where we have received permission from the local coordinating task force," explained Joko.
