India’s ambassador for Indonesia H.E Mr Biren Nanda officially established the Map Museum and Library in Geography Faculty of UGM on Thursday (30/10). The establishment was signed by the plaque signing by the ambassador Biren Nanda, Rector Deputy for Alumni and Business Development of UGM, Prof Toni Atyanto Dharoko and The dean of Geography Faculty Prof Suratman.
Prof Suratman explained that the museum was built to describe the history of map and mapping process. It also provides information needed by students and society related to the mapping process and its applications on various fields.
Meanwhile the General Secretary of Indonesian Geography Students Association (IMGI) Mashudi Majeri said that this museum is the first step of IMGI contribution in science field in Indonesia.
After the event the India’s ambassador visited the location of the museum at the northern wing of the Geography Faculty. At the museum he saw various map collections from different generations, from 18th century map to the modern map in hardcopy format and digital format. Various tools, data sources and information technologies are also available in the museum to support the mapping process
