On the same occasion, the Professor in the Faculty of Agriculture of UGM, Prof. Dr. Dwijono, criticized that Bulog is only assigned to manage rice while the government has asked people to have food diversification. Bulog should also handle soy, corn, cooking oil, etc. Food supplies must be for all and affordable.
Dwijono also argued that the government should redefine the food security and sovereignty independently based on social, cultural, and ecological conditions. "Our food security is still very vulnerable to external influence," he said.
He said that Indonesia is an archipelagic state which has different characteristics. To reduce the dependence on rice, he proposed the empowerment of institutions at central and local levels, farmers and consumers, such as PKK and Dasawisma.
