               UGM Faculty of Veterinary Medicine will initiate the establishment of Faculty of Veterinary in Laos and Cambodia through JICA’s fund from Japan. Along with Faculty of Veterinary Science of Yamaguchi University, Japan, UGM has been appointed supervisor of the establishment of those faculties in Laos and Cambodia.
               “This appointment is due to our similarities in culture, society and tropical animal species. We have been requested by JICA to help,†said the Head of Vet Professional Education Program, UGM, drh. Agung Budiyanto, M.P., Ph.D., after giving a presentation in an international seminar “The Role of Advanced Technology in Animal Reproduction and Scienceâ€Â at the Faculty’s Auditorium, Saturday (24/10).
               Agung said that based on the signing of cooperation between the UGM’s Dean of the Faculty and his counterpart from Yamaguchi University, the establishment of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is planned to start in 2010. UGM staff and researchers will then be sent there as temporary lecturers. Meanwhile, several lecturer candidates from Laos and Cambodia will study at UGM.
               “We don’t know yet about the selected universities that are chosen by JICA,†said this Senate Secretary from the Faculty.
Related to the international seminar, Agung
said that this was to know how far research in each university has gone on current production technology and veterinary reproduction. “We would like to encourage students to learn student researches and they would like to know our practice farms."
