UGM students have once again inked a proud international achievement. This time four students of the Chemical Engineering Department along with a team from Chalmers University in Sweden were the world champion in the final of the Mondialogo Engineering Award 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany, from 4-9 November, being ahead of 30 finalists from various countries.
The four students, Annisa Utami (2006), Annisa Sekar Palupi (2006), Benny (2006) and M. Aqwi Gibran (2007), wrote a report entitled “Zero Waste Production System in Small-Medium Industrial Cluster as the Core of Sustainable Innovative Villagesâ€. They were one of the selected 30 finalists of as many as 932 proposals coming from countries around the globe.
As mentioned by the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Ir. Suryo Purwono, M.A.Sc., Ph.D., in an e-mailed press release on Tuesday (10/11), in the final the team was represented by Benny and Marcus Hogberg from Sweden. “The team who was competing on Day One performed confidently and managed to have one of all eight gold medals in this championship,†said Suryo Purwono.
He added that the UGM’s success was due to the intensive cooperation with the Chalmers University’s team, starting from the brainstorming of ideas until proposal writing. “Congratulations to the team and thank you for the lecturers who have strived hard to guide the students prior to the championship,†he said.
