A company is expected to provide humour recreation for female workers. Tests showed that the combination between humour recreation in the company and outdoors can reduce depression and enhance women's work performance in managing psychosocial stressors.

That was explained following a research conducted to some 992 female workers in a small textile company in Sleman regency. The proportion of female workers who experienced minor to severe depression was 70.3%. After a treatment of outdoor humour recreation, the level could be reduced by 17.88%. “Outdoor humour recreation proved to be the most effective one,” said tha lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine, UGM, Dra. Sumarni, M.Kes., in a doctoral promotion examination at the Senate Hall of the Faculty, Friday (20/11).

Sumarni said that in-house humour recreation treatment can reduce the depression level by 11.85% and outdoor recreation without humour can reduce by 6.51% whilst in-house recreation without humour by 5.75%. “Recreation affects the decrease of sensitivity relationship between depression and psychosocial stressors in female workers of a textile company in Sleman regency,” explained the lady born in Ngawi, East Java, on 1 May 1952.

Her research showed that after a recreation treatment, those female workers could better manage their psychosocial stressors and this would reduce the possibilities of getting affected or being drawn to depression.
