The First Indonesia Industry Research Forum 2009 (1st IIRF 2009) organized by Institute for Research and Community Services UGM (LPPM-UGM) was successfully held on Tuesday, 1 December 2009 in Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta. It was well-appreciated as indicated by the attendance of about 240 participants from UGM academic community, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Research and Technology, Ministry of Health, Indonesian Commerce and Industry Agency (KADIN), top managements from six industrial sectors: food, health and medicine, energy, transportation, ICT, defense and security as well as national and international organizations interested in industrial researches.
The First IIRF 2009 has succeeded to raise UGM as pilot university in pioneering the development of industrial research cooperation in Indonesia. That was clearly delivered by the General Director of Higher Education, Prof. Fasli Jalal, who was representing Minister of Education, in his opening speech. The event was started with the report of the Head of LPPM-UGM, Prof. Danang Parikesit, followed by the opening speech of Rector of UGM, Prof. Sudjarwadi. Also giving a speech were the Deputy Head of National Sciences and Technology System Development, Prof. Amin Soebandrio, representing Minister of Research and Technology, the Head of Research and Development Institute of Ministry of Health, Prof. Agus Purwadianto, representing Minister of Health and Deputy Minister of Industry, Dr. Alex Retraubun, to open the First IIRF2009.
No less than 70 UGM’s multidisciplinary researchers and 60 stakeholders who are involved in ( ) RUSNAS UGM industrial research cooperation in 2009 displayed posters and banners depicting the results of research in every industrial sector. This event also exposed a forum of Industrial Policy Report by Prof. Mudrajat Kuncoro followed by a series of presentation on policy recommendation of each sector by Research Coordinator of RUSNAS UGM 2009, Prof. Mary Astuti (Food Sustainability), Prof. Iwan Dwiprahasto (Health and Medicine), Dr. Agus Maryono (New and Renewable Energy Resources), Dr. Lukito Edi Nugroho (Information and Telecommunication Technology), Dr. Heru Sutomo (Transportation Technology and Management), and Dr. Alva Edy Tontowi (Defense and Security Technology). An Industrial Research Cooperation Workshop was conducted throughout the day and opened by Dr. Yusril Yusuf (Head of Industrial Services Department of LPPM UGM). This workshop was attended by 35 representatives from 29 universities.
Many have raised the hope for the Second IIRF that will be held next year on Wednesday, 1 December. Early preparation by the Directorate General of Higher Education is expected in order to raise this forum to national level by involving UGM as the main university in this programme. The First IIRF has brought opportunities in industrial research cooperation for UGM’s researchers by establishing and maintaining contact with the participating stakeholders.
