The lecturer in Faculty of Geography, UGM, added that the re-occuring floods in Indonesia are due to several factors, among others, are high precipitation and some land unable to absorp water any longer, and changes in land use. To reduce disaster risks, many can be done, such as disaster mitigation preparedness, organisational management, and maintaining upstream areas as water catchment areas.
Meanwhile, Lies Rahayu W.F., a researcher in the Centre, focused more on disaster education movement to tackle threats of disasters and to minimise the risks. The implementation can be done through various media whether audio (radio broadcasts), visual (posters, leaflets, booklets, pocket books, and newspapers) or audio-visual (TV).
