Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) inaugurated as many as 941 graduates of Graduate program Wednesday (27/1) in Grha Sabha Pramana. The graduates consisted of 912 in master’s, 21 specialist, and 8 doctoral programs. The average length of study was 2 years and 2 months for S-2, 5 years for specialist and 6 years for S-3.
The shortest period of 11 months was completed by Dody Iskandar in S-2 of Graduate School in Environmental Science. The fastest, 3 years 6 months, was completed by Sotya Prasari in Dermato-venereology of Medical Specialist whilst in S-3 by Mohammad Yasin from Physics Department in Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, who finished in 6 years. The youngest graduate (22 years and 8 months old) in S-2 was Isabella Paramita from Graduate School in Population Master Program. Meanwhile, the number of Cumlaude graduates was 154 (16.89%).
In his speech, Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D., reminded the graduates about UGM’s vision which outwardly “to become a World Class Research University, independent and dignified†and inwardly to be “inspired by Pancasila that dedicates itself to the interest and prosperity of the nation.â€Â “This means that efforts to make UGM as a World Class Research University is for the sake of the interest and prosperity of Indonesia,†he said.
To realise the inward vision, the Rector called for the graduates to start it with real actions however small. “For that reason, upon your return to your hometown or place of work, you should be able to implement the knowledge you have gained on campus and you need to learn as long as you live for the interest and prosperity of our environment,†he suggested.
On the aspiration to give contribution for the nation’s development, the Rector said, UGM continued to increase synergy with the local government and local universities. The success is not far from the role of UGM alumni. The Rector expected the graduates as automatic members of Kagama (UGM Alumni Associaton) to be able to actively participate in the network currently being developed on UGM website, the Alumni Career Support System (ACSS) and Simponi (Information System of Alumni Potential). To date, Simponi has over 127 thousand alumni of over 200 thousand in total. “Real, small actions that are synergised among alumni will surely produce something huge that is benefecial for the prosperity of Indonesia,†he ended.
