As a follow-up to the established cooperation, the Mayor of Boras, Sweden, Mr. Ulrik Nilsson, visited Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The group was received by UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D., in his office, Tuesday (9/2). The purpose of the visit was to see the waste refinery project in Gamping Market, Sleman regency.
Executive Secretary of UGM, Drs. Djoko Moerdiyanto, M.A., explained that both institutions have agreed on the waste management cooperation through education and research. According to Djoko, the Mayor and the Rector wanted to bring Sweden people closer to Indonesian people. To achieve this, both sides have agreed to increase the number of students in student exchange program.
It was further expected that the Sweden’s success in waste management can be transferred to Indonesia. Both sides hoped that waste management science and technology can be developed in Indonesia. “Not only do we produce waste as fertilizer and biogas, but also change it into electricity, adopting Swedish science and technology,†Djoko explained.
Also attending in that occasion were a lecturer of Faculty of Engineering, UGM, Dr. Siti Syamsyiah, and seven members of the Swedish delegation: Petter Loberg (Member of the Municipal Council), Anders Glemfelt (Director of Business Development), Par Carlsson (Director of Waste Refinery at Boras Energy and Environment), Magnus Eriksson (Responsible for Energy and Environment at the County of Sjuharad), Jessica Magnusson S.P. (Technical Research Institute of Sweden), and Daniel Wennerlund (International Business Coordinator).
