This year, 2010, Webometrics again ranked Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) the highest in its ranking of Indonesian universities. This was the third time for UGM since year 2008. “This year, UGM came as the best university in Indonesia in Webometrics after two years in a row also having been ranked first,†said Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Drs. Suryo Baskoro, M.S., Thursday (11/2/2010).
Added by Suryo that among the top 100 in South East Asia, UGM is at the 8th, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) 10th, University of Indonesia (UI) 17th, and Petra University 19th. Other universities are Gunadarma University (24th), Malang State University (28th), Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS) (31st) and several other universities. This year, Indonesia contributes 17 universities to the 100 list in South East Asia.
Suryo explained that the ranking of Webometrics is based on electronic publications (e-publication) in each university’s web domain. The measurement is based on four indicators: size, visibility, rich files and scholar.
The first indicator, size (S) is the number of e-publication pages in university’s web domain. The second, visibility (V) is the number of other pages attaching the URL of university’s domain being assessed. Third, rich files (RF) is the relevance of electronic source with academic activity and publication of that university. The last, scholar (Sc) is the number of publications and qualified citations in university’s domain. Next, the collected data are processed to rank about 4000 universities from all over the world. Â
