SMA Metro Lampung came out first in the National Geography Olympiad for High Schools Year 2010 held by Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada. On second place was SMAN I Surakarta and the third was SMA I Banjarnegara.
The Olympiad with the theme “Geography in implementation of natural resources management and environmental sustainability†was attended by some 70 teams from 48 senior high schools in Indonesia. The event was held from 10-11 Februari 2010 in Faculty of Geography, UGM.
Saddam Husien, public relations officer, explained that the winners were selected based on accumulative scores in several criteria. Those were paper and poster, written competition, presentation, and case study. “During presentation, what is assessed is not only the essence of the paper but also how they deliver it and their response in case study,â€Â he explained, Thursday (11/2).
The first winner was awarded a trophy from Minister of National Education, second: Governor of Yogyakarta Special Province, and third: UGM Rector. “For your information, the first winner is entitled to admission to UGM without undergoing selection test and free study up to a period of 4 years,†Saddam added.
