Vocational schools develop fast in various educational lines in the United States of America. Every year, public interest in vocational schools and community colleges increases. Linda Serra Hadgehorn, Director of Research Institute for Studies in Education (RISE), explained that community college attracts Indonesian people who study in the US, because this school accepts international students and is seen as giving room for cultural diversity. “There are many major universities that accept foreign students from this school,†said Linda at a digital video conference entitled “Community Colleges: A Concept for All Nations†held at American Corner, UGM Library, Wednesday (17/2).
Meanwhile, vocational schools and diploma programs have also developed in Indonesia, such as UGM’s vocational schools. In many occasions the Indonesian government emphasizes its commitment to developing and improving quality of vocational schools and alternative education for its citizens. Added by Linda that Indonesian vocational schools need to establish cooperation with many multi-national companies to gain trust from industrial world to open opportunities for apprenticeship and job opportunities.
