According to Arie Soedjito, S.Sos., M.Si., lecturer of Sociology Department, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM, basic values of Pancasila can actually be transformed into practical daily life. The national Ideology should be open to discussion.
As part of political consensus, Pancasila is expected to become the spirit of national life. This was considered as a paradox during the reform era. On the one hand, there is room for appreciation without pressure. On the other hand, the freedom does not have deep meaning. “Sometimes it is even simplified, because it only pursuits artificial things, so all abstract business and values are not considered important, because they are not concrete,†said Arie at Center for Rural and Regional Studies, Thursday (25/2) in a discussion entitled "Pancasila and Its Implementation in the Perspective of Rural People."
According to Arie Soedjito, today it is not enough only to memorize Pancasila. The more important point is how Indonesians obtain the value and spirit of knowledge of Pancasila and connect them with empirical facts.
He hoped that Pancasila can become familiar to everyone, from executives, lecturers, businessmen, journalists, labors, farmers, NGO’s activists, politicians, etc. “That’s what is called ideology where there are values of spiritualism, humanism, togetherness, democracy and justice, “ he added.
Also contributing in this discussion were Y. Murdowo, who delivered a paper entitled Meaning and Background of “Garuda Biru†Painting; E. Suharjendro, who discussed " the Meaning and the Birth of Song Murcane Pancasila"; and Drs. Sindung Tjahyadi, M.Hum, Head of Center for Pancasila Studies.
