Identity acknowledgment and preservation of local culture are increasingly strengthening in the globalisation era. Such awareness has emerged due to the strengthening of local culture. “We should not worry about the sustainability of the local culture as it has immense natural immunity in responding to foreign cultures,†lecturer of Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Dr. Sri Margana, M.Hum., M.Phil., said in a seminar entitled “Building Local-Global Synergy Based on Cultural Heritageâ€, Tuesday(2/3) at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM.
In Margana’s opinion, globalisation is a certainty. Cultural strength is required from a nation. Strong culture will make a nation stay stable in the dynamics of globalisation that are unpredictable. “The culture that is based on the richness of local culture is the power of the national culture that needs to be developed,†he said.
A similar view is also expressed by Dr. Wening Udasmoro, M.Hum., D.E.A., saying that local awareness is required to deal with the current global situation. In her opinion, local culture has knowledge and concepts. “Locality and globality are useful to respond to human needs,†she said.  Â
