The Times Higher Education-QS World University Ranking placed Faculty of Cultural Sciences of UGM on the 111th of world’s ranking in Arts and Humanities study program in 2009.
That was said by Dean of Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Dr. Ida Rochani Adi, in the Dean’s Report of Year 2009 during the celebration of the Faculty’s 64th Anniversary, Wednesday (3/3), in Poerbatjaraka Building. Ida Rochani said that despite its contribution to UGM’s rank, the Faculty will work even harder to accelerate improvement of the quality of learning, research, community services, management, and cooperation. "To go in that direction, benchmarking has been carried out simultaneously in all departments by researching best practices in world-class universities," Ida Rochani added.
Ida said that the increased researches was due to research competition. In 2009 there were 21 national scientific articles, 21 international scientific articles and 17 research proposals that had access to funding resources, both nationally and internationally.
“Researches have increased more than 900 percent from the previous year," she said. The Dean also reported that the Faculty has now 151 teaching staff, consisting of 138 civil servant lecturers and 13 non-civil servants as well as 6 foreign lecturers from the United States, Korea, Japan, and Spain. Meanwhile, there were as many as 2992 students in 2009, consisting of 1851 S-1 students, 290 S-2 students, 109 S-3 students, and 514 D3 students.
UGM’s Senior Vice Rector of Academic, Research, and Community Service, Prof. Dr. Retno S. Sudibyo, M.Sc., Apt., suggested that UGM continue working towards world class university. In her opinion, the achievement boosts UGM to the world’s ranking. "For cultural sciences, I think this is a pretty good result, because it is the highest rank in Indonesia," she said.
