Graduates from Vocational School Should Open Business

Until now graduates from vocational schools prefer to become staff/employers rather than to try and create job opportunities. Each year those graduates cannot yet grab the available opportunities. Statistics showed the big increase of unemployed graduates due to lack of work. The high number of layoffs  worsened the condition.  “It is ironic that most of the unemployed people are from vocational schools, who have been prepared to become employers,” H. Sukiyat explained on Thursday (4/3) at a seminar entitled “Entrepreneurs in Automotive Sector” during the Mechanical Fair 2010.

Owner of the body repair Kiat Motor company, Sukiyat, asked these graduates not to fear in opening similar work opportunities. In his opinion, cars always increase in number from year to year. “People having automotive as their hobby makes new competitors. This makes new cars cheaper. Companies should then be effective and efficient, honest and quality-oriented,” he said.

Sukiyat was happy to share his experience. He started it by attending a training in Solo back in 1973 and joining apprenticeship in a motorcycle workshop. After the training, he moved to Jakarta, working at the Harapan Kita Swaprasedyapurna foundation. In 1978 he returned to Klaten  to start his business on a starting capital as little as Rp75,000 from the Darmais foundation and another same amount from his parents. His company has now billions in its revenue.
