WHO-TDR has established Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), as Regional Training Center for health researches in 2010. This has the aim to increase awareness on Good Laboratory Practice, Good Clinical Practice and Good Epidemiology Practice that will be conducted as researcher capacity enforcement at UGM. “As a Regional Training Center, this is an opportunity for our researchers to have role at national and international levels,†said Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti, M.Sc., Ph.D., in the Dean’s Report during the celebration ceremony of the Faculty’s 64th Anniversary.
UGM has been previously selected by the WHO as Regional TB Training Center. In 2009, training and workshop – TBCTA-Retrac – were conducted and joined by participants from several countries. The Director General for Community Health Agency, Dr. Budihardja, D.T.M.H., M.P.H., in his speech said that the achievement of MDGs 2015 should be done through acceleration, involving central, provincial and regency/municipality levels. “Currently, the Health Ministry is working on a concept of health reforms to improve people’s health,†He mentioned that the concept of people empowerment adhered to by the Government is to increase people’s capacity in preventng and solving health matters. Meanwhile, Vice-Rector for Alumni & Business Development, Prof. Ir. Atyanto Dharoko, M.Phil, Ph.D., hoped that in the future the Faculty of Medicine can gain better achievements.
