Graduating with high grade point average (GPA) is not a guarantee for a person to succeed in life. The thing that determines someone’s success is personal quality and character’s strength.
“High GPA does not guarantee someone to have better fortune, so GPA does not resolve our real problems in life,†said Ahmad Yuniarto, the CEO of Schlumberger Indonesia in front of hundreds of college graduates in the "CEO Talk" Career Days VI UGM 2010 on Saturday (6/3) at Grha Sabha Pramana.
Yuniarto said that classroom experience is not enough. In work environment, we are demanded to stand out and compete with colleagues. "We must be able to stand out and be seen among the people," he said.
Capacities for a leader do not rely on the famous name of universities they attended or their GPAs but on their manners, personal qualities and characters.
Daring to compete with many people and having good manners can perhaps help someone succeed. These suggestions came from Yuniarto, the first Indonesian CEO of Slumberger. So, is there somebody out there doubting the advice?
