Embassy of Japan handed over a unit of language laboratory to Language Training Center, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The unit having 48 booths is worth 1 billion rupiah and is intended to enhance and complete language learning. The handover was done symbolically by the Director of Information and Cultural Center, Embassy of Japan, Mr. Masaki Tani, to Dean of Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Dr. Ida Rochani Adi, Thursday (11/3).
This lab is a Listening Station that is very different from the conventional language laboratory. It adopts digital system equipped with a server and, therefore, users no longer use cassettes but soft data.
Ida Rochani hoped that this sophisticated lab from the Embassy of Japan can be used optimally. "We’re very happy with this lab, because it provides facilities for students to practice Japanese and other foreign languages," Ida said.
According to Ida, the ability to master a foreign language is supported by constant practice. The Faculty will maintain the laboratory. "We will maintain the lab as we know that good maintenance will enhance the utilization," she added.
Masaki Tani said that the aid is a grant on behalf of Japanese people given through the Embassy. He believed that this new lab would provide benefits to students, particularly those who are studying foreign languages. "This is a grant in cultural area. In 2008, this program was implemented. Personally, I am very happy to implement this program," said Masaki Tani.
After the handover, Ida Rochani and Masaki Tani came to the location of the lab on the second floor of the Language Center. Both tried to use the digital audio equipment, video recording, and monitoring.
