“This will allow highest decision making in technical veterinary health based on veterinary professionalism,” said the Dean of the Faculty, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Dr. drh. Bambang Sumiarto, S.U., M.Sc., and his counterpart from IPB, Dr. I Wayan T. Wibawan, M.S., D.V.M., representing other Deans, Thursday evening (29/10). Also attending were the Head of the Indonesian Veterinarians Association (PB PDHI), Drh. Wiwiek Bagja, and a member of the Veterinarian Education Council, Prof Dr. drh. Agus Lelana, in the Auditorium of the Faculty.

“The Government needs this Deputy Minister for the betterment of agriculture, i.e animal products, and veterinary health,” said drh. Wiwiek Bagja. In her opinion, to protect the community from the threats of Avian Influenza, swine flu, rabies and other cases, a system of structure and authority should be made. This system should be supported by the central leadership down to the regional leadership. “Isn't it time to increase veterinary capacity to resolve this case?” she was asking.

To increase staff capacity in managing regional finance and assets, Pangkal Pinang City Government in Bangka Belitung Province cooperated with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). That was the content of an MoU between UGM and Pangkal Pinang City Government, which was signed on Friday evening (19/3) at UGM Main Building.

The Mayor of Pangkal Pinang, Drs. Zulkarnain Karim, M.M., said that the signing aims to train the staff in managing regional finance and assets. Financial training is very important to follow up bureaucracy reforms conducted by central government in terms of human resource, institutional and governance affairs. “The most difficult thing is governance or management.  Regional finance management is not apart from human resource and institutional capacity,” he emphasized.

As the Mayor, Zulkarnaen knew the fast development and change in financial management done by Central government. This is something that regional staff cannot follow sometimes, therefore, the municipal government considered the cooperation with UGM important.

UGM Rector, Prof. Ir Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D, welcomed the cooperation. This training is expected to give optimum benefit for the advancement of Pangkal Pinang. “We facilitate capacity growth in order that internal encouragement towards constant learning can develop for the realization of  civilization and public interest,” he said. The Rector also hoped that through this cooperation, the participants not only obtained knowledge, but also skills, mental attitude and personality values that are instilled by UGM.
