Grieve is felt again by the big family of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). One of its best lecturers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Djuwantoko, M.Sc., passed away. The professor from Forestry Faculty died on Thursday, 25 March 2010 at 07.15 in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, aged 62.
The body is to be buried on Friday (26/3) at UGM Sawitsari Graveyard, Yogyakarta. Before, the body was laid at the Balairung of UGM to be given last respect.
Djuwantoko was known for his commitment to education, especially animal management. It was not strange if he was related to issues on the wildlife of the long-tail monkey. He was also known as a hard-worker, shown among others by his participation in Kapal Selam Student Unit. “UGM has lost one of its best sons. May his role become a model for all members of UGM academic community,†said Chair of Council of Professors, Prof. Drs. Suryo Guritno, M.Stat., Ph.D.
Djuwantoko was born in Yogyakarta, 27 December 1948. During his life, he was Head of Forest Resource Conservation (1993–1996), Head of Management Centre of Mangunan Girirejo-LPM-UGM (1994). He pursued his education in Forestry Faculty UGM in 1977. He earned Master’s degree (M.Sc.) from the University of the Philippines in 1986. By 1991, he earned Ph.D. degree from the same university.Â
